Pete Karas is running because the two-party system is broken and voters are tired of being told they only have two choices. Wisconsin’s Secretary of State has limited duties, which makes this a safe and powerful election to support an independent candidate.
By electing a third-party voice to a statewide office, we can send a clear message that voters want real choices, political reform, and an end to the undemocratic two-party stranglehold on our elections.
My Key Issues
Modernizing Wisconsin’s Public Records
Expand digitization of historical and at-risk records to preserve and make Wisconsin’s history accessible statewide. Create a searchable online records system that lets people easily find executive actions, legislative acts, and official documents in one place. Ensure accessibility by making records searchable, readable, and usable for people with disabilities. Strengthen transparency so Wisconsinites can quickly see how their government works. Partner with libraries and universities to do this work efficiently and responsibly.
Using a Limited Office to Make a Real Difference
The Wisconsin Secretary of State no longer has real policy-making power. Today, the responsibility of the office is mostly administrative but it still matters, and should be used to do good. Board of Commissioners of Public Lands As Secretary of State, I would gladly serve as Chairperson of the Board of Commissioners of Public Lands, alongside the Attorney General and State Treasurer.
Fund Based on Need
I support prioritizing school districts with the greatest needs instead of treating districts as if they were all the same. Because Wisconsin’s school funding system is deeply uneven, our urban and rural districts are falling further behind while well-funded suburban districts continue to pull ahead. A needs-based formula would: Provide proper resources to where they’re needed most Strengthen the libraries in underfunded communities Reduce inequality without raising taxes.
